Two conservative pro-life activists were arrested and charged with 15 felony charges on Tuesday after they exposed Planned Parenthood’s practice of carving up and selling parts fetuses for profit.
Bizpac Review reported that David Daleiden and Sandra Merritt of the Center for Medical Progress were arrested after they released undercover videos that showed Planned Parenthood employees harvesting and selling organs and other tissue from aborted fetuses. They were arrested for violating the privacy of medical providers by filming them without their consent.
Prosecutors told the press that Daleiden and Merritt each received one count for filming 14 people without consent between October 2013 and July 2015 in Los Angeles, San Francisco and El Dorado counties. The 15th charge was for alleging criminal conspiracy.
Daleiden spoke out to say that the “bogus” charges came from “Planned Parenthood’s political cronies.” He was referring to the fact that State Attorney General Xavier Becerra, a congressional Democrat, took over the investigation two months ago.
“The public knows the real criminals are Planned Parenthood and their business partners,” Daleiden said.
Planned Parenthood defended itself in a brief statement.
“As we have said from the beginning, and as more than a dozen different state investigations have made clear: Planned Parenthood has done nothing wrong, and the only people who broke the law are those behind the fraudulent tapes,” said Mary Alice Carter, interim vice president of communications for Planned Parenthood.
Republicans spoke out to defend Daleiden and Merritt from the charges against them.
@AP Meanwhile, company that carved up and sold baby parts goes free.
