The city of Chicago, Illinois continued it’s descent into violence over the weekend as seven people were killed and 28 were wounded in shootings between Friday evening and Monday morning.

The Chicago Sun Times reported that the last fatal shooting of the weekend occurred at 4:51 a.m, when police were called to the 9400 block of South Forest only to find two people suffering from gunshot wounds. A 66 year-old man was killed after being shot multiple times while a 52 year-old woman survived with a gunshot wound to the leg.

Two other fatal shootings occurred within 15 minutes of each other on Sunday night. A 20 year-old man was shot dead at 8pm in the Riverdale neighborhood when several males walked up to him and opened fire. At 8:15pm, a 24 year-old man was fatally shot as he stood in a vacant lot in South Green Bay.

At 8:21am Sunday morning, 22-year-old Donald Johnson was arguing with his 43-year-old father about who would walk the dog when they began shooting at each other. Johnson was killed and his father is listed in critical condition.

The first homicide of the weekend occurred at 6:45 p.m. Friday in the Archer Heights neighborhood on the Southwest Side. Police arrived at the scene only to find that 21-year-old Carlos Rosas had already taken himself to the hospital after being shot in the chest. Unfortunately, he ended up dying of his injuries.

Though Chicago has some of the strictest gun laws in the country, it continues to have an extremely high crime rate. This just goes to show that contrary to what liberals will tell you, stricter gun laws will not lead to lower crime rates.

Please pray for all the victims of this past weekend’s shootings in Chicago, as well as their families!
