MTV fans are in mourning this week after Clay Adler, who once starred on the popular reality TV show Newport Harbor: The Real Orange County, passed away. He was only 27 years-old.
Dail Mail reported that Adler died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound on March 26, but news of his death just made public. He had starred on season two of the reality TV show back in 2007 and 2008. The program had been a spin off of another highly-watched reality show, Laguna Beach.
Police said Adler had been out with friends on March 25 when the group decided to go fire guns in the desert. Suddenly, Adler turned his weapon on himself and shot himself in the head. He died the following day of his injuries. The authorities do not believe drugs or alcohol were a factor in Adler’s death, but they did acknowledge that he had struggled with mental health problems in the past.
Adler’s friends said their goodbyes to him last Saturday in a traditional paddle out ceremony, as he had been an avid surfer.
After his time on reality television shows came to an end, Adler had tried to enter the acting world, but he struggled to find work. He had been a close friend of Jennifer Lawrence, who would go on to win an Oscar, when the two first entered the Hollywood scene.
It’s always so sad when someone so young chooses to end their life. Rest in peace, Clay Adler!
