The city of Chicago, Illinois continued on it’s descent into violence this week when seven people were killed over a 12 hour period within four blocks of each other on Thursday.

USA Today reported that the murders came from three separate incidents, including a gang-retaliation attack at a fast-food restaurant that left four men dead. This shooting occurred when the suspect approached Nadia Fish and Chicken Restaurant and opened fire. The victims have been identified as 28-year-old Emmanuel Stokes and 32 year-old Edwin Davis as well as brothers Dillon Jackson, 20, and Raheem Jackson, 19.

Hours later, a  27-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman were fatally shot as they drove near the South Shore Cultural Center. They were killed when a black Jeep drove alongside their van and opened fire.

Patrice Calvin, 26, was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head on Thursday. She was four months pregnant at the time of her death.

“She was a beautiful person,” said her mother, Patricia Pulliam.

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel spoke out to call the killings “evil.”

“There is a level of evil and depravity about an individual [who] would shoot a pregnant woman,” Emanuel told reporters. “There is a level of evil and depravity of an individual who would walk into a restaurant and, in front of a mother, shoot her sons.”
